FAQ

HOW MUCH DOES A WELL COST?

Wells vary greatly in price, based on the availability of qualified drillers, the depth of the well, the kind of well, the location, and several other factors. We get a price quote from every well before it is sponsored. Here are some samples of average costs:

Malawi - $8000

Uganda - $9500

Haiti - $5000

Myanmar - $4800

Nigeria - $9000

India - Friendship wells, done in a group run about $1500 (this significantly lowers cost). A Fountain (for several mountain villages) costs $5000. A Solo well in India costs $5000

We have had wells cost as much as $17,000 in very difficult areas where problems were encountered.

A hand-dug well in Vietnam was as low as $450.

In addition, we also do other projects. For instance, we have done water tanks in India for communities, waters systems, like for for Umri Hospital in India and Kibuye Hospital in Burundi. These were $20,000 + for each.

DO YOU EVER DRILL A BAD WELL?

Yes. Unfortunately, sometimes a well will turn out to be salty or bad. Salty is hard to predict accurately, but it is rare that we ever attempt a place that turns out bad. Our applications start the process of determining whether or not a proposed location is likely to work, and then the drillers check diligently to make certain that the likelihood of success is high.

CAN I APPLY TO SERVE ON A WELL-DRILLING TEAM?

Clear Blue does not send teams. The only place we use stateside drillers is in Haiti, because it is the only place where it is cost-effective to do so. Well-drilling is a highly skilled profession, and entails risk. Our Haiti drillers cannot use volunteers--the liability is too high.

CAN I GET PICTURES OF THE PLACE I HELPED SPONSOR A WELL?

We will try. But you have to remember we are helping people who do not have the basic needs of life, and with drillers everywhere except Haiti who are nationals. Often we have to wait until the supervising missionary or national leader goes to the location, and has available time and resources to take pictures and send them to us. If you pay for a specific well, you can request information on the village/community, and we will give you what we have. Much of what is available you will find on the website.

If you would like to visit Clear Blue projects while you are visiting a field or serving in some other way, we will be happy to get you connected.
