"Wells continue to be dug in Orissa. They are called Friendship Wells. Hindus have kept Christians from using wells in their community. So when Clear Blue wells are "dug" they are called "Friendship Wells."
because they are open to anyone.
Bishop Gollapalli tells of a situation in a tribal area where, for years, they have had to climb a hill for water. Sometimes they are pregnant women or elderly. It has been a huge trial. They ran a pipe down to the village and it so impressed the people that of all the government agencies who could have helped, the Christians did it. 140 were recently baptized. Bishop Gollapalli expects up to 300 to be baptized. The gospel has been preached in the area for some time, but this was the clincher that convinced them that the gospel is real." DAVID YARDY, ASIA AREA DIRECTOR
India is a large, varied country with a growing population of more than a billion people. There is a incredible diversity of wealth, religions, languages, culture, and geography. A large divide existsbetween rich and poor, with more than 25% of people living below the poverty line.
India's diverse economy includes agriculture, handicrafts, and a wide range of modern industries and services. India has enjoyed significant economic growth over the last decade and poverty has been reduced by about 10%. This economic expansion has helped certain regions reach new levels of prosperity while others remain some of the most impoverished in the world.
3 wells have already been sponsored by Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church in Pennsylvania.
Here are some of the villages needing wells....would you like to pick one to sponsor?
WORK ALREADY DONE IN INDIA
Clear Blue has worked with leadership in India to provide a water producing and pumping system at Umri. The sustem is up and working well to provide clean safe water there. Umri is a 25 acre campus that includes
--Umri Christian Hospital
--A nursing school with 100 students
--an English Medium school of 350 that ministers to prominent families in the area
--a Marathi school with 350 students
--and 200 child care children that live in a hostel and go to the Marathi school
Paul Yardy, David Yardy's father, founded the hospital in 1951 and a key to its existence in this semi arid area was finding water and putting in a water system. One of the first VISA persons before VISA, was Mr. Benson who came in and put in the system. It meant pumping water about a quarter of a mile to the
top of a hill. A distribution system went from there to the two sides of the hill. With the growth of the institutions including adding the English school and the nursing school, the children of child care were very short of water. The last several times in India Moses Arwade (India ICCM coordinator) talked about this in our BOA meetings. He had an engineer devise a preliminary plan of adding a separate line to a productive
well some distance away. This plan solved the water problem!
